The great challenge 5 ; The Schumacher era – Limited edition book

Rainer Schlegelmilch’s stunning photography is the heart and soul of this beautiful coffee-table book covering Formula 1 in the years when Michael Schumacher was on the grand prix trail. Published by Dieter Streve-Mülhens , it’s split into sections covering individual drivers with Schumacher understandably occupying the major chapter. The German’s fellow World Champions Fernando Alonso, Mika Hakkinen, Damon Hill and Jacques Villeneuve are also in the spotlight, with smaller sections for the other 22 top drivers of the period. The foreword is by Jean Todt with other major figures such as Bernie Ecclestone, Ross Brawn, Flavio Briatore and Mika Hakkinen giving their views on the Schumacher era. The photography is superb whether it’s the consciously artistic shots that are used at the beginning of the larger sections or the spur of the moment action shots like that of the flash fire on Michael’s Ferrari in the pits in Austria 2003. The book has a wonderful hologram of Michael Schumacher to the front and comes in a matching slipcase in the colour’s of Michael Schumacher’s race helmet. This cloth bound book contains 264 pages of the highest standard and finish with more than 800 colour photos of which most of them being are being published for the first time. This is a limited edition of only 2400 which has been numbered calligraphically and also personally signed by Dieter Streve-Mülhens and Rainer W. Schlegelmilch. The first 1800 editions were reserved for customers who purchased all five volumes in the Great Challenge series as the previous 4 volumes were sold as a set. The volumes numbered from 1801-2400 are for owners of the Schumacher era volume only and this particular edition is numbered 1843. A wonderful, rare book which is very collectable. Dimensions measure 34cm x 28cm with bilingual text (German/English).
